Pramod Kumar Jatav, a young man from Sasaram, Bihar, owns a coaching institute Gyan Jamuna Coaching Center for Class V to Class XII students. Along with teaching, Pramod is simultaneously completing his M.Sc (Physics) degree from B. R. Ambedkar Bihar University.

While talking about how rapidly his coaching has grown online, Pramod also states that during his school years he never dreamt of becoming an educator, as back then he wanted to become a Government Officer. However, dire financial conditions at house resulted in him working as a assistant teacher at a local coaching institute. In his own words:

I used to attend college, relax for an hour or so, and then rush to the coaching center. By the time I returned back home, it was always past 10 PM. “

Despite this hectic schedule, Pramod says that he never felt tired, in fact he used to look forward to spend time teaching at the coaching institute. He liked being a educator so much that after he completed his education, he decided to open a coaching institute with his friends.

However, competition in Bihar is extremely high, both for coaching institutes and students. Pramod learned this the hard way, as his institute struggled to find a good ‘footing’ in the ever shifting educational landscape of Bihar. To make his own mark in the landscape, Pramod then decided to adopt an online + offline hybrid model of teaching. In his own words:

Hybrid model was the obvious solution. I mean I know how to set up a system, my students know how to use a mobile, what else is there to it? So I decided to move forward with the idea.

Nowadays, majority of my students have a mobile, and a internet connection, so they attend the class in ‘virtual mode’. The students who don’t have such facilities, or those who don’t want to learn ‘online’ , attend the class physically.”

At first he operated using standard meetings software such as Skype, or Google Meet. But those software were only good for conducting a class, there was no feature to record the class, no feature to create video packages, no feature to tract sales, and no Ready Made content for educators.
