Gum Tayeng is a proud owner of Mount Zion Children School (Class I to Class IV) in Old Donyi Colony of Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. Since 15+ years, she has been running the school alone in the ground floor of her ancestorial house, assisted by her husband & two children occasionally. In our conversation she explained the reason to why the school came to become a one women operation.
Mostly I work alone. My husband is busy earning money for family at office, my kids busy in their college. Also majority of my students connect online, so it is unnecessary to hire extra-help”

As said by Mrs. Tayeng herself, most of her students learn online. It wasn’t always so, as she never considered online teaching to be viable for schools. Another misconception of her was that online systems would be too complicated to operate.
