Do you remember your childhood, when you used to recite the English alphabets again and again to feed them in your permanent memory? When your teacher makes you repeat the same line so you learn it thoroughly. What does all this depicts? Nothing but the learning styles that you have had during your childhood.
It’s important that you learn but it is also equally important to recognize the best way to learn better. What is learning?
Learning is the process by which you keep memorizing something for a long time. Many things that you have learned during your childhood like addition, subtraction, or division problems are not needed to be repeated on a daily basis. But still you can solve them without any hustle. The reason behind that is learning and the learning style.
Everyone has their own way of learning to attain knowledge, some people feel reading or writing is a better way to learn. Some think listening to audios makes them learn in a good way and few think creating visual memory is more helpful for them to remember the concept for a long time.
Learning makes you memorize that particular object or topic or a subject for a long time. Even if you do not revise or practice it on a daily basis. There are many theories given for the types of learning. One of the most popular theories is VARK model theory. V for Visual, A for Auditory, R for reading/writing and K for Kinesthetic.
The Learning styles can be of various types. There are four types of learning styles given here. Let’s take a deep dive among all of them one by one.
1. Auditory learning
Auditory learning is the method in which children learn by listening to the sounds or different stories. Like many children, they used to listen to the summary of a complete book or novel instead of reading the whole text.
How can it be more effective for your child?
Auditory methods can be effective for your child if he likes to listen to music, or other sounds and has good listening skills. As like, the debaters are quite good at their listening skills and they perceive better by listening to the discussion. Auditory learning can be best represented in the form of group discussions, lectures and debates and group activities. Many a time when they listen to the audio lectures repeatedly. If you do so and learn better by doing so then you are also an auditory learner.
2. Visual learning
Visual learning method is a method in which a child can learn multiple things: videos, graphs, pictures, movies, photos, diagrams, models in order to facilitate his learning process.
How can a visual method be effective? A visual learning method can be a better option for the children who like to learn or memorize things by looking at their photos, watching their videos, graphs, movies. Many children can create an image in their minds if you talk about a superhero, because they have multiple movies related to superheroes like Spiderman, batman, etc.
3. Linguistic method (Reading/Writing)
Such kind learners are very much used to reading or writing habits to learn any concept forever. A lot of learners grasp knowledge only by reading the particular text again and again which makes them memorize it. You can enhance their learning capacity by giving them assignments, projects or pictures which would be a great way to acquire knowledge for them. You can ask them to make their handwritten notes after reading a particular subject or topic which helps them in better understanding of that topic.
How can a linguistic method be effective? Linguistic methods can be represented to a learner by giving them writing assignments, or projects and can also ask them to prepare the spider notes for the particular topics or chapters.
Linguistic learning can be done by giving a number of good reading sources to the learners or providing them with online texts specific for the particular topic or subject.
4. Kinesthetic Learning:
Kinesthetic learning is a type of learning in which students learn better by doing things. It is hands-on learning. Basically this is a kind of tactile learning experience in which you feel and touch and learn better.
The best way to learn through kinesthetic learning is by examples, personal experience, and practices. Moreover they can memorize it for a longer time by recreating it on their own.
How can Kinesthetic learning be effective? Kinesthetic learning is very much effective as it can be easily attainable by making experimental models, creative structures and practicing a lot of examples.
